The first buildings you encounter are repurposed. The larger was originally part of the light station on Ross Island, brought there by the light keepers who wanted a place to work on vehicles and fir storage. It now houses our wonderful little gift shop and Welcome Centre, staffed by summer students and volunteers. Our gift shop has many local items or items custom made for us, all with a lighthouse/nautical theme. Proceeds help us maintain the light station and associated costs.

The smaller building is the well or pump house for the keepers house. The water is piped to the house above ground by gravity feed.
